Computer Tips...
- You can get a new computer system to run Camelot for as little as $500-$700, so an expensive state-of-the-art system is not needed. Also, very often this kind of business investment is totally tax deductible.
- Be aware that computers do have a limited practical life, and must from time to time be replaced, just like other business equipment. Periodic replacement doesn’t cost, it saves!
- If you’re upgrading, start by getting more RAM memory (random access memory). 512MB of RAM memory is easily available for around $50.00 (cheap!). Adding RAM is likely the single biggest improvement you can make to your existing computer.
- Keep your old monitor and printer to keep hardware costs lower.
- If you are in the market for a new monitor, get at least a 19" flat panel LCD. Certain screens in Camelot, such as the order screen and schedule, will size to show more data at once on larger monitors.
- If you're networking, get a network switch instead of a simple hub, as switches operate faster.
These are available for under $80.00, and the network cards you will need in each computer are around $15.00 each, making the total investment relatively small. Most electronics stores offer the service of getting your network set up for a reasonable fee. The added productivity of networking quickly pays for your added investments.
- If budget is really tight, don't let that prevent you from taking action. Consider your investment already in your business-- your customer base, equipment, phones, time, and effort, and resolve
yourself that you will get the most from that investment!
- Remember, you don't need the latest, most expensive hardware to run your business well!
