How do I move my program and data to a different computer?

For Camelot 3.x (and newer)

On the new/different computer, install the program and the latest update for the program from the most recent Camelot 3.x installation download links you would've received.  If you do not have these, then request them again from the sales department using the Contact link at the top of this page.  Be sure to include your name, company name, and phone number in your request.

Then copy the C:\Program Files\Camelot3 folder and all its subfolders to the same location on the new/different computer.

Here are steps for copying the files using a usb flash drive.  Please realize these are the same steps for copying any file from the hard drive of one computer to the hard drive of a different computer, and the only thing that makes these instructions specific to Camelot is the fact that the file folder you are copying is the Camelot3 one:
1. On the old computer, put in the USB flash drive
2. Be sure you have the Camelot program closed on all machines
3. Go to windows Start and choose My Computer, or just Computer in Vista
4. Double-click on your local disk C: hard drive
5. Double-click on the Program Files folder - or Program Files (x86) if you are running Windows 64-bit.
6. Right-click on the Camelot3 folder and choose Copy
7. Go to windows Start again and choose My Computer, or again just Computer in Vista
8. Find your Removable disk drive for the flash drive listed there, right-click on it and choose Paste
9. Once it is done copying the files, take out the flash drive, and put it into the new computer
10. Go to windows Start and choose My Computer, or just Computer in Vista
11. Find your Removable disk drive for the flash drive listed there, and double-click on it
12. Right-click on the Camelot3 folder you've copied there, and choose Copy
13. Now again go to windows Start and choose My Computer, or again just Computer in Vista
14. Double-click on your local disk C: drive
15. Right-click on the Program Files folder - or Program Files (x86) if you are running Windows 64-bit, and choose Paste, and answer yes to Copy and Replace all existing files, and you're done.

For Camelot 3.x, you will not need to obtain new authorization codes at this point assuming your existing database had already been registered, so just copying that database to the new computer is all you have to do.

If you are unsure of how to copy files from one computer to another, then probably the best option for you would be to take both computers to a local computer shop and have them copy the Camelot3 folder and subfolders for you.

IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows Vista, be sure before trying to copy and replace any files that you have first  disabled User Account Control in Vista.

For Camelot 2.x (and older)

First, find your most recent Camelot installation CD, and use it to install the software onto your new computer.  If you no longer have a Camelot Installation CD or you are having problems with your CD, you can download the 2.x installation from our website.  To request a download link for 2.x, use the Contact link at the top of this page.  Be sure to include your name, company name, and phone number in your request.

If during the installation, the installation program asks for an install key code (which is different from an authorization code), you can use: JOHN316, or if your installation is a special one for a certain franchise corporation (like "Chem-Dry"), then you may need a special install key code, and you can use the Contact link at the top of this knowledgebase to request your special install key code.  Be sure to include your name, company name, and phone number in your request.

Then, copy the Camelot folder from your old computer to the same location on your new computer (by default, it is the C:\Program Files\Camelot folder).  This ensures that you have the same version number of the program on the new computer so that it will coincide with the database you will copy over, and this will also copy your database file to the new computer.

In this version of Camelot (that is, 2.x and older), when you first open the Camelot program again, you will most likely then need to obtain new authorization codes to access your program and data on the new computer.  New authorization codes can be requested through our website here.  Be sure to ONLY do this AFTER you have copied your database to the new computer, as the codes are saved within the database itself.  If you get new codes on a newly installed blank database, then you will have to get them again when you overwrite that database with your existing one.  So, again, be sure you have your existing dataase copied onto the new computer before getting your codes.
