DAO Error...

PROBLEM / ERROR:  “DAO Error...”

Common types:
Record is deleted
No Index for field
No current record
Dataset not in edit or insert mode ( Data set not in edit or insert mode )

Usually these errors mean that the database needs to be compacted.  Close out of the program on all machines, then from your windows Start menu, go up to Programs > Camelot > Compact Main Database.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then run the Camelot DB Utility program (windows Start > Programs > Camelot > Camelot DB Utility) and click the Compact/Repair database files option, and choose the Main database (or if this is an additional company database, choose that option and browse to choose the correct company database file).

If the problem persists, then you may need to restore from a backup (windows Start > Programs > Camelot > Camelot DB Utility > Restore from backup > Main Database > choose most recent).

This is caused sometimes by database driver errors in memo fields.  You could need better network hardware to keep this from happening quite so often.  See our Recommended System Requirements for more information.

The bottom line is if you have a lot of users and a rather large database, you will sometimes get this message, and so you have to close everyone out and compact your data.  If you run a large database with more than 5 users, it is a good idea to compact your data on a daily basis.  Running Windows 2000 or XP as your operating system will usually keep these DAO errors from happening as often.

Also, be sure that you have all of the most recent service packs and updates for your operating system installed.  Usually you can check http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to get those.  Also, go to http://www.microsoft.com and then to the Downloads section, and search for Jet, and be sure you have any new updates for it installed.
