Customizing your marketing funnel - Example 2

Sometimes you may want to do follow-up reminders to certain types of clients more often than other types.  For example, in a carpet cleaning company, you may want to service a client with allergies or pets every 3 months instead of just every 6 months.  Let's add a new funnel entry to the Basic Marketing Funnel to accomplish this.

1. Click on the 6-Month Reminder letter entry in the funnel so that it is highlighted.  We do this so that when we click the Add button, it will copy all the information from that entry to our new one, which will help since they are similar.

2. Now click the Add button under Funnel Sources above our list of funnel details here.  This will bring up the Funnel Details screen for our new addition to the Basic Marketing Funnel.

3. First type in a new description that says "3-Month Reminder to clients with pets or allergies".

4. Now change the Source Description which is the mailout marked to send to clients who meet the criteria for this entry to be a 3-Month Reminder letter.  If there is not one in your list of sources/mailouts, then you may need to close this screen and setup a new mailout.  See the help for Correspondence Definitions for more information.

5. Now we need to set the criteria for this funnel entry by clicking the Change Criteria button.

6. On the Criteria screen, change the date range to be between 3 and 4 months ago instead of 6 and 7 months ago.

7. Now click the plus (+) button under that criteria row to add a new criteria row.

8. In the first box of this new row, choose the AND conjunction, which will probably already be there.

9. In the second box of this new row, put an open parenthesis because you want all clients with pets OR allergies, so you will end up with two new rows with parentheses around both.

10. In the third box of this new row, choose the field name, which in this case is "Owns Pets?".  This is a Boolean (Yes/No) custom field, so if for some reason you don't have this field choice, then you may need to add that custom field to your database on the Custom Fields screen.

11. In the fourth box, choose "is Yes (True)" because you want all clients for which you have checked the Owns Pets custom field box on their Profile tab.

12. That will be all for that first new criteria row.  You can click the Edit Criteria row button (...) just to the left of this new row and it will take the row out of editing mode and it should now read clearly "AND ( Owns Pets? is Yes (True) "

13. Now we will need one more new row, so click the plus (+) button under this row to add another criteria row.

14. In the first box of this new row, you want to choose OR instead of AND because you want all clients with pets OR allergies

15. In the second box for open parenthesis, you don't need anything this time.

16. In the third box for the field name, choose "Allergies?" which is also a Boolean (Yes/No) custom field.

17. In the fourth box you again want to choose "is Yes (True)" because you want all clients for which you have checked the Has Allergies custom field box on their Profile tab.

18. In the last box on this row for parentheses, enter one close parenthesis which closes the open parenthesis you entered on the previous criteria row in step #9.

19. Now you can click OK to save this criteria with this funnel entry, then click OK again to save this entire new funnel entry with the Basic Funnel, and you will see it listed with the other funnel entries there on the right.
