How do I backup my database?

By default, the program will automatically make a backup of your database file onto your hard drive the first time the program is opened each day, or to the location you specify in the Path for Auto Backup box on the Backup tab of the Company Setup screen (Misc/Setup pull-down menu option > Company/Misc Info).  You should not however rely solely on this backup, since if your hard drive crashes, it would do you no good.

You must have a good backup plan where you backup your database onto some external media on a daily basis (again we recommend a USB flash drive, a CD-Recordable drive, or an online backup solution).  It is no fun when your computer crashes and you lose days, weeks, months, or years worth of data, so don't let that happen to you!  Take the time now to setup a good backup plan, and confirm that you know how to backup and restore your database when necessary!

To backup your database file using a USB Flash drive, you will not use any of our utilities.  Instead follow these steps:

1. Insert the USB Flash drive into your computer's USB slot (usually will be one on the front of the computer)

2. Close out of the Camelot program if you have it open

3. From your windows Start menu, choose My Computer (or just Computer for Vista users)

4. Double-click on the hard drive where you have Camelot installed (usually the local disk C: drive)

5. Double-click on the Program Files folder (for windows 64-bit users, the Program Files (x86) folder)

6. Double-click on the Camelot folder (for Camelot 3.x users, the Camelot3 folder)

7. Double-click on the Database folder

8. For Camelot 3.x, right-click on the CAMDB.FDB file you'll see listed there (for Camelot 2.x, right-click on the Data.mdb file you'll see listed there), and choose Copy from the windows shortcut menu that will appear

9. Now again go to your Windows Start menu, and choose My Computer (or Computer for Vista users)

10. Now find your USB Flash drive listed here (will usually be under the Removable Media drive section there), and right-click on it, and choose Paste from the windows shortcut menu that will appear

To backup your database file using a CD-R drive, you will not use any of our utilities.  Instead, you need to use the CD creation software that came with your drive (usually Nero or EZ CD Creator) to do that.  You will create a new Data CD image, and then choose the path to your main database file as the file you want to record to the CD (for Camelot 3.x, it is the C:\Program Files\Camelot3\Database\CAMDB.FDB file, and for Camelot 2.x, it is the C:\Program Files\Camelot\Database\Data.mdb file, but may be different in a network situation)
